No, the shuttle bus between Coalsnaughton and Fishcross acts like a regular bus and operates to a timetable. So you just need to show up at the time the bus is scheduled for.
The 10 journey ticket can be purchased on the bus. This provides fare paying passengers with 10 single journeys that can be used over 28 days. This works out cheaper than buying single or return fares. We felt this would be more flexible than providing a weekly ticket, as not everyone wants to travel every day.
Unfortunately the Wee County Bus and the 52 are not ran by the same operator and we do not have the capability to provide through tickets that would allow Wee County Bus passengers to travel on the 52 using a single ticket.
The Wee Country Bus is used for a variety of journeys. Therefore to maximise the capacity for all users, the Coalsnaughton shuttle provides the shortest connection to other buses for onward travel to places like Alloa, Tillicoultry and Stirling. The timetable has been designed around the arrival and departure times of the 52 service at Fishcross to enable people from Coalsnaughton to connect with this service.
As the Wee County Bus has other passenger needs to meet, we have only been able to provide shuttle buses outwith the core hours. However we have taken some time out of the Wee Country Bus operating day to provide a late morning shuttle to allow people in Coalsnaughton to make half day journeys.
The Wee County Bus was not designed to include the population of Coalsnaughton. External funding has been found to secure a longer operating day to include the peak hour shuttle buses to serve Coalsnaughton due to the emergency closure of The Glen until 31st March 2027. DRT will soon open to smaller communities such as Muckhart. Once we better understand the full demand and capacity available on the Wee County Bus we can look at where spare capacity exists and if we could support other opportunities.
The council were able to secure external government funding to support people living in Coalsnaughton who are struggling to access employment due to the diversion of the local bus services as a result of The Glen closure. This funding was only available until 31st March 2027. At this time we do not know when the road may reopen to local buses and therefore what need the community will have from April next year. The council will continue to monitor the public transport situation in Coalsnaughton and advise in due course, if bus connections are still required after this date.
