The Repairs Service will carry out most repairs to your Council home free of charge. However, in line with your tenancy agreement, there are some repairs that you may be responsible for paying yourself.
In certain cases, the Repairs Service may carry out the work on your behalf and recharge you for the cost. Recharges may apply for a variety of reasons, including (but not limited to):
When you call the Repairs Centre 01259 452000 to report a repair, we will let you know if the repair is your responsibility and whether it is rechargeable. If the repair is rechargeable, we will inform you of the estimated cost before any work is carried out.
Before work begins, our operatives will ask you to sign a Repair Cost Agreement. This outlines your responsibility for the repair, details the work to be completed, and includes the estimated costs.
Once the repair is completed, you will receive an invoice within 10 days, which will include VAT. You will have 28 days to pay the invoice or make arrangements to settle the amount due.
If you are moving out of your Council home, please ensure the property, including the garden, is left clean, tidy, and free of personal items. All necessary repairs should be completed before you leave.
We will carry out a pre-termination inspection to assess the condition of the property and identify any outstanding repairs. This inspection gives you the opportunity to complete any repairs that are your responsibility before your tenancy ends.
If the property is left in disrepair or items are left behind, you may be recharged for the cost of any work required to bring the property back to standard.
For further information on rechargeable repairs and recharges, please see our Rechargeable Repairs Policy.
