In 2022/23 we purchased a total of 33 properties from the local open market as part of our ongoing policy initiative to provide additional housing for people in housing need.

In December 2022, we wrote to you with an information pack and rent increase survey asking for your opinion on your current rent charge and on a proposed rent increase for the coming year. The consultation was sent to all council tenants, 432 of you responded to the survey which ran from 2 December 2022 to 9 January 2023.
Of those of you who completed the survey, 69% thought our rent represents good value for money, whilst 66% felt our current rent charge was affordable. Over half of respondents indicated that a 3% increase with some reduction in investment in the next financial year would be appropriate.
Your views were submitted to Council on 16 February 2023, Council considered results from the consultation and of the impact the cost of living crisis would have on tenants in the next year, whilst also thinking about the increased costs faced by the Housing Service. To sustain services and support investment the decision was taken that there should be a rent increase of 3% from April 2023 to March 2024.
The rent consultation for financial year 2024/25 is due, consultation will be by post and we encourage all tenants to provide feedback.
