Getting Recycling Right

Getting Recycling Right

The council provides a reliable recycling service for every household. For this service to be cost effective we need every householder to use it to its full extent.

We need to collect the correct, clean materials in the right recycling container. This gives us a lorry load of high quality materials that reduces the cost of reprocessing.

What happens to my recycling?

The material collected by our bin lorries is emptied at a waste transfer station at Stirling. A lorry then transports all the stored material and takes it to a materials recycling facility. Here the contents are sorted into their material types. Each material type is then transported to a reprocessor who will prepare it for manufacturing.

More information on recycling in Scotland can be found via the Net Zero website.

Getting it Wrong

If your bin contains the wrong materials we will not be able to empty it until you have sorted the contents into the correct bin. We will do this by placing a tag on your bin. If your bin is tagged then please follow the instructions on the label. Please note that we will not normally return to empty your bin before the next scheduled collection day.

Householders have a responsibility to use their recycling service in the right way to ensure we collect only quality materials and do not throw away valuable resources.

Households that do not recycle are effectively costing us over £100,000 a year that we should be spending on priority services.
