Service specifics
Small changes to improve safety and independence, such as:
- Grab rails
- Bannisters/second handrails
- Threshold access solutions
Local Authority housing
If you are a Council tenant and require a minor adaptation, you may be able to self-refer.
Owner occupiers/housing association/private tenants
If you live in your own home, rented accommodation, or housing association property, an assessment may be required to determine eligibility and available assistance.
Process
Council tenants
- Self-Referral/request
- Review/assessment
- Your request will be reviewed and, where required, further information gathered
- Works arranged
- If appropriate, minor works will be arranged
- Completion
- Adaptation is installed to support safer independent living
- Examples may include grab rails, handrails, and small access improvements
Owner occupiers/housing association/private tenants
- Adults
- Children

- An occupational therapist assessment will be undertaken to understand your needs
- Further assessment if required
- More detailed assessment may be required depending on complexity
- Recommendations
- Advice will be provided regarding suitable next steps, equipment, or adaptation options
