Service specifics

Larger structural changes to meet assessed need, such as: 

  • Level access showers 
  • Ramps 
  • Stairlifts 
  • Through-floor lifts 
  • Access widening 
  • Permanent toilet/bathing adaptations 
  • Kitchen adaptations
  • Tracking hoists 

Major adaptations depend on: 

  • Property ownership 
  • Feasibility of the home 
  • Funding routes 
  • Financial assessment where applicable 
  • Landlord permission where relevant

Process

Council Tenants 
  • Self-referral/enquiry
  • ​​Initial consideration
    • The Housing team will consider your request and assess initial needs
  • Further assessment if required
    • If the situation is more complex or wider issues need considered, an occupational therapist assessment may be required
  • Works progressed
    • Approved works will be taken forward through the relevant process 
Housing Association tenants 
  • Adults
  • Children
  • Recommendations/feasibility
    • Suitable adaptation recommendations will be considered
  • Referral to housing association
    • Recommendations will be submitted to your relevant housing association 
  • Works taken forward
    • Your housing association will progress the works through their own processes and timescales
Owner occupiers/private tenants 
  • Adults
  • Children
    • Contact childcare for advice and referral, t: 01259 225000 or e: childcare@clacks.gov.uk
    • An occupational therapist assessment (if appropriate) will be undertaken to understand your needs
  • Grant process
    • Where eligible, support may be available through the relevant grants/assistance process
  • Planning the works
    • You may be supported with identifying appropriate architects, suppliers, or contractors
  • Permissions/funding
    • Relevant approvals, permissions, and financial arrangements progressed
  • Works completed
    • Adaptations undertaken once approvals are in place
