Muckhart Primary SchoolMuckhart Primary School was built in 1845, in the centre of the parish. It enjoys a rural setting outside the village on the road to Muckhart Golf Club.

There are extensive grounds to the rear of the building with a playground area and a large grassed area.  It also benefits from a large outdoor classroom.

The school is very much at the centre of the community and we encourage the use of the local environment as a valuable learning tool.  A community wildlife garden was developed at the school in 2004 and is an excellent resource to aid the teaching of several areas of the curriculum.

The school building consists of 3 classrooms and an assembly/dining hall. There is a secure door entry system to the school.

The aim of the school is to create an ethos where pupils, parents and staff work together in partnership to provide the highest possible standard of education for all pupils.  The school has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

The school offers a broad-based curriculum, geared to meet the needs of all pupils, based on the key principles of Curriculum for Excellence.

We have 25 netbooks available for all pupils.  We have visiting teachers of PE, expressive arts and learning support as well as instrumental instructors for brass, woodwind and strings. We also hold regular assemblies.

Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child's education through home learning and family learning opportunities, learning conversations and open evenings which are held during the year.

The headteacher and staff are always willing to meet with parents to discuss any concerns which may arise.

There is a very supportive School Parent Council and the school benefits greatly from the social and fund raising activities of the Parent Council.

There is an elected Eco Committee and Pupil Council which meet regularly to discuss issues raised by the pupils.

Primary 7 children have been trained to act as buddies within the school which involves younger children being supported by the older pupils.

After school clubs in art, drama, music and various sports activities are well attended. A residential programme is offered to senior pupils.  Educational visits are also organised at various times of the year.

Two of the key strengths noted by HMI during the recent inspection were the high standards of attainment by pupils and the positive ethos and attitudes to pupils and their achievement. We are committed to building on these strengths in the future.

There are well-established links with our associated secondary school, Alva Academy, as well as with our local nursery schools.

The headteacher welcomes enquiries from prospective parents. She will be pleased to arrange for visitors to be shown around and to have the opportunity to discuss the work of the school.

Our School Handbook is available via our website.
