School Enrolment

The responsibility for a child's education rests with the parent. Most parents choose to discharge this responsibility by enrolling the child in a local authority school.

Generally, children who attend school will go to their local catchment school.

Denominational Schools

Entitlement to enrol in one of the Council's two Roman Catholic primary schools - St Bernadette's and St Mungo's Primary Schools or the Roman Catholic secondary school - St Modan's is restricted to children who have a baptism certificate from the Catholic Church.

Parents of other primary school aged children who wish to enrol must submit a placing request.

P1 Enrolment

All children who have their 5th birthday before 28 February 2025 are of statutory school age and may start education in August 2024.

Enrolment of pupils into P1 for the 2024/25 session takes place in January 2024. This year we are asking parents and carers to provisionally enrol their children at their catchment schools using our online form. The full enrolment process will be completed at a later date.

Placing Requests

If you would like to place your child in a school other than the one serving your home address, you should submit a Placing Request using the Placing Request Application Form.

Even if you are planning to make a placing request, please enrol your child at your catchment school, so that a school place is secured for him/her regardless of the outcome of the placing request.

Placing Requests can be accepted throughout the year, but all those for the 2024/25 session received before 15 March 2024 must be dealt with before 30 April 2024.
