The responsibility for a child's education rests with the parent. Most parents choose to discharge this responsibility by enrolling the child in a local authority school.
Generally, children who attend school will go to their local catchment school. You can find the catchment schools (denominational and non-denominational) for your address by using our search below.
The enrolment form for Primary and Secondary Schools is available to view or download from this page.
All children who have their 5th birthday before 28 February 2020 are of statutory school age and may start education in August 2019.
Enrolment of pupils into P1 for the 2019/20 session takes place in January 2019. Please contact your school direct about enrolment arrangements.
When enrolling your child, you should take your child's birth certificate along with you to your catchment school.
Individual school details can be found on the Schools section of this site.
Please refer to our Early Entry to School Request web page.
Please refer to our Deferred entry to Primary 1 web page.
For Nursery Enrolment please see the dedicated Early Learning and Childcare Place page.
Even if you are planning to make a placing request, please enrol your child at your catchment school, so that a school place is secured for him/her regardless of the outcome of the placing request.
Placing Requests can be accepted throughout the year, but all those for the 2019/20 session received before 15 March 2019 must be dealt with before 30 April 2019.
