Applying for a place (age 3-5)

Children become eligible for a free place from the term after their 3rd birthday. This entitlement continues until the child is of the age to start school.

All children have an entitlement of 1140 hours per year in a local authority ELC setting.

This entitlement means an early learning and childcare place of 6 hours a day over 38 weeks in a local ELC setting, partnership nursery provider or with a childminder.

Some of our local authority settings also offer your funded hours spread over the full year. The settings are Park ELC, Tulach ELC, Sauchie ELC and Menstrie ELC.

The session options for the full year are:

  • Monday and Tuesday 8am-5.30pm and Wednesday 8am-12.45pm, or
  • Wednesday 12.45-5.30pm, Thursday and Friday 8am-5.30pm, or
  • 5 mornings 8am-12.45pm, or
  • 5 afternoons 12.45-5.30pm

Partner ELCs and some childminders can also offer funded hours spread over the full year. You need to contact them directly to find out the session options they offer.

There is currently no option to pay for additional hours/sessions in our local authority settings.

There are no catchment areas for nursery places. Placements are allocated dependent on availability. Every effort will be made to accommodate your first choice request.

To apply please refer to our enrolment arrangements for eligible 3-5 year olds page.
