Accessibility Strategy

Accessibility Strategy

All local authorities must have an Education Accessibility Strategy, with a three year plan of what they are going to do to make schools and Early Learning Centres accessible for children and young people with disabilities and their families.

There are three main parts to the strategy and each part has an action plan.

To improve access to schools and ELCs for all children and young people who have a disability
  • We will build a purpose designed school for children with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
  • We will continue work to ensure our schools and ELCs are accessible.
To improve access to curriculum for all children and young people who have a disability
  • We will provide more training for staff so know how to support children with disabilities.
  • We will provide children with specialist equipment they need to communicate and learn.
  • We will support schools and ELCs to become even more inclusive.
To improve communication with children and young people who have a disability
  • We will share information in a way that is easy to understand.
  • We will work with specialists to support children to communicate in a way that suits them.
