The environmental policy is as follows:
Ensure full compliance with all current environmental law and work towards conforming to best environmental practice in all our operations.
Make sure that everyone knows what they need to do and why they need to do it.
Minimise waste and resource consumption in all the Council's operations, reuse resources and use recycled products wherever practical, and investigate ways to build on the Council's existing use of renewable energy.
Reduce the need for employees to travel and make sure that if people do need to travel, they use the most environmentally sustainable means for making the journey.
Help protect and support biodiversity on Council land and, by working in partnership with key stakeholders, help protect and support biodiversity across Clackmannanshire.
Make sure that new buildings are as ecologically sound as possible and work towards carbon neutral development as quickly as possible.
Use our buying power to support improved energy efficiency; promote ethical purchasing; increase the proportion of recycled and recyclable products and materials bought; and favour locally sourced materials wherever possible and appropriate, to reduce transport impacts and support local employment. We will also expect a high standard of environmental performance to be achieved by existing and potential Council contractors and suppliers.
Through the Clackmannanshire Alliance and other key partnership fora we will work to promote an inclusive approach to improving environmental performance, and to seek efficiencies from partnership working wherever feasible.
