Climate Change - Sponsor's Voice

Climate Change - Sponsor's Voice

This month’s theme is Climate Change. Clackmannanshire Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and recognised climate change as one of the most serious challenges facing communities here in Clackmannanshire and across the world.

The Council also brought forward its net zero targets to 2040 at a council meeting in August 2022 and set an area-wide target of net zero by 2045.

Councillor Fiona Law is the Spokesperson for Environment and Net Zero. Fiona is passionate about climate change and net zero. Watch the video below to hear Fiona tell us more about it.

Young Pathfinders

PathfindersTo find out more from our young people in Clackmannanshire about Climate Change in action, Ellen visited Young Pathfinders Ruby, Brooke and Beth who are in their second year and are part of the wider Eco-Committee at Alva Academy. The Eco-Committee is represented by each year group and the members meet regularly. Ellen heard from them about the great work the Eco-Committee is doing to help tackle climate change locally, including Recycle Fridays, taking part in the local Climate Change Forum and promoting eco-friendly solutions and opportunities throughout the school.

Clackmannanshire Council Leader Cllr Ellen Forson said: "As the climate emergency worsens and addressing climate issues becomes more urgent, it is vital that local government invest more time and money in tackling climate change. Clackmannanshire Council is committed to a greener future, and I am proud to see our young people taking a proactive approach to understanding the challenges faced in tackling climate change so that they can thrive in a green economy."
