Equality Impact Assessment

Equality Impact Assessment

The Council is required, by virtue of the Public Sector Equality Duty, to consider the need to:

  • Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • Advance equality of opportunity
  • Foster good relations, and
  • Reduce inequalities of outcome caused by socioeconomic disadvantage, when making strategic decisions

Specifically, we must assess the potential impact of new or revised policies or practices against these requirements.

We use Equality Impact Assessments to:

  • Take effective action to improve equality and tackle inequality
  • Develop better, more responsive, policies and practices, based on evidence
  • Be more transparent and accountable
  • Avoid unlawful discrimination

Policies are screened to check whether an Equality Impact Assessment is required. Those where EQIAs have been completed can be accessed below.
