Community Learning and Development

The Community Learning and Development team supports disadvantaged or vulnerable groups and individuals of all ages.

The team delivers youth work, adult learning (literacies and ESOL) and family learning, bringing about positive change in the lives of individuals and communities, through learning and personal development.

Support is provided in community centres and other venues across Clackmannanshire.

Activities

The CLD Team provides the following activities:

    • This includes adult literacy classes. Please call us if you would like to find out more.
  • Family work
    • Every Wednesday from 3.30pm in the Bowmar Centre Alloa. This is open to all families throughout Clackmannanshire. It is free and a hot meal is provided. No booking necessary just come along.
  • Adult work
    • Wellbeing sessions for any adult over the age of 16 with mild to moderate mental health concerns (does not have to have a diagnosis). Please email us for more information.
  • Community Café
    • We support a volunteer led community cafe every Friday from 9.30-11.30am in the Bowmar Centre, Alloa.
  • Youth Work
    • We have a youth worker based in each secondary school working with young people who are or at risk of disengaging from education. We work with small groups to deliver outdoor learning, life skills and to build confidence. Each youth worker will work with the cluster primary schools around P7 transitions.
  • ESOL
    • We deliver English classes for anyone who would like to learn or improve on their English. There is a referral process. Email us at communitylearning@clacks.gov.uk for more information.
  • Outdoor Learning
    • Our outdoor instructor, along with other members in our team, offer a range of outdoor learning activities, from led bike rides, archery, bush and camp craft, team building activities and wider forestry school programmes. Our outdoor instructor works closely with the Council's Rangers Service to educate around protecting and looking after our local environment.
