Clackmannanshire's Local History Service exists to preserve, organise and make accessible printed, photographic and other material relating to all aspects of local life and history. This can involve the mountings of exhibitions, the staging of talks and slide shows, resources for community groups, the tracing of family roots, and the supply of materials for school and college projects. The Local History Collection is looked after by the Archivist. The material is held in the Speirs Centre and can be requested for consultation in the Local & Family History Centre on the second floor.

Some resources that are found in the collection:

  • Books and pamphlets
  • Magazines
  • Annual directories
  • Genealogical and Census material
  • Newspapers on microfilm

There is a microfiche index to local Alloa newspapers (other than the Circular) which covers the periods from 1844 to 1982 and from 1986 to 2010.

Photographs and slides

  • Maps and Plans

Donations of material, whether printed, photographic or on other media, are very welcome.

Clackmannanshire Archives also collects personal papers and records of local organisations.
