Assessing And Processing Application Proposals

Assessing And Processing Application Proposals

Search, View, Object or Comment on Planning Applications

Planning legislation requires that each Council pubishes a list of extant applications  (ie applications that have still to be determined) within their area (usually known as a "weekly list".  This information can be obtained by accessing the link above and using the relative search fields.  In addition, we also publish our Development Services Bulletin on a weekly basis which contains a list of applications received and decided in the preceding 7 days.

We also maintain the statutory Planning Register, again accessed via the link above.  These public files contain both textual information and relevant documentation required throughout the assessment/consultation/publicity period of the application and thereafter the decision notice, approved plans and report of handling for every determined application.

The Council has two months to determine an application for planning permission for all local developments, and four months for a major development.

The responsibility for the assessment of all planning applications is delegated initially to individual case officers, who in turn will examine proposals, visit the site of the development and proceed to prepare a Report of Handling for each application. Every report contains specific information, including:

  • A summary of the main issues raised in any representations that have been submitted, and a commentary on their relevance to planning and the recommendation from the Service.
  • Details of those parties consulted by the Council on the application and a summary of the responses we receive.
  • A summary of the many issues raised in documents provided by the applicant in support of the proposed development.
  • A summary of the terms of any planning obligation in relation to the grant of planning permission for the proposed development (a Section 75 Agreement).
  • Details of the provisions of the development plan and any other material considerations which we have had regard to in assessing and determining the application.

Most planning applications are for local development, and will be determined by Appointed Officers under the Council's Scheme of Delegation for Local Developments. Major applications will be decided by the planning committee.
