Descriptions of weekly fitness classes

Adult ASN class

A weekly exercise class for adults with disabilities or additional support needs. Includes adaptive movement exercises and is suitable for wheelchair users.

Box Fit

Non contact class and a type of high intensity interval training (HIIT), which includes bursts of intense activity alternated with
intervals of lighter activity. It aids weight loss, decreases stress and builds strength and stamina. It will also work multiple
muscle groups, and can help to challenge your muscles and promote growth.

Chi Kung

Gentle Chinese exercises suitable for all. Not only works very gently on the body at your own pace for improved movement but also on relaxing the mind. Classes are done in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Circuit and Fitter Folks classes

An exercise class designed to improve your strength, muscle tone, weight loss and over all health and fitness. Come along and exercise in a friendly environment at your own comfortable level.

Drumming for Parkinsons

This class is designed for people with Parkinsons to help with their strength and mobility. Come along and have some fun and learn a few new tunes and how to play them on drumming balls. Suitable for all levels and partners or carers are welcome to come along.

Female weights only class

The class is designed to help shape and tone muscles but will not increase the size of the muscles.

Strength training can help you manage or lose weight, and it can increase your metabolism to help you burn more calories. It can enhance your quality of life and improve your ability to do everyday activities.

Strength training can also protect your joints from injury.

Gym Sessions

Come along and learn how to use gym equipment in a safe enirnment. Get a workout using treadmills, bikes, rowers, cross trainers, free weights and fixed weight machines. The sessions are supervised at all times and instruction will be given on how to use the equipment safely and properly.

Line Dancing

Line dancing is a social, low-impact exercise class where participants learn a series of steps to music and complete them in unison with others which comes together to make a dance. We will be dancing to different music such as pop and country. Country attire not necessary but encouraged.

Low Impact exercise class

This class is suitable for you if you have a long term health condition which may be helped by exercise including

  • Diabetes, pre Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis, back pain
  • Cardiac rehabilitation

OTAGO

This class is for people who have ben identified as a falls risk or who may be becoming unsteady on their feet. The exercises are targeted at improving leg strength and balance to help individuals maintain their independent lifestyle.

Pickleball

Pickleball is a racket or paddle sport in which two players (singles) or four players (doubles) use a smooth-faced paddle to hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball over a 34-inch-high (0.86 m) net until one side is unable to return the ball or commits a rule infraction. Come along have some fun and meet new friends.

Pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise that engages the mind and body through movements focusing on balance, posture, strength and felxibility. It's suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

Social Badminton

Come along for a fun game of badminton and play with your friends or with other people no matter your ability.

Seasonal Yoga and Yoga

Seasonal yoga helps improve your flexibility, posture and core strength and the function of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive and hormonal systems using various yoga positions. Yoga also works with the meridians of the body and the energy of the seasons. Suitable for all levels of fitness.

Gentle Yoga

This is an all levels gentle yoga class to decompress, destress, and feel good. Gentle yoga is a great way to slow down, connect with your body, and calm your mind. This practice is ideal for anyone new to yoga, but everyone will enjoy this opportunity to open up their body, breathe deeply and simply feel good.

Zone 60s, Over 60s, Mature Movers, Sporty Seniors

This class is about maintaining a healthy lifestyle, meeting new people and enjoying a fun filled session. Gentle exercise to help improve your strength, balance and overall health and wellbeing.

Zumba

Zumba is a fun and sociable dance based fitness class that uses a fusion of Latin and International rhythms with easy to follow moves. It includes both high energy cardio, and resistance training components designed to tone and sculpt the entire body. Zumba is designed for adults of all ages and fitness levels, and class participants at any level can start Zumba right away.
