School Lunches

School Lunches

All pupils in P1 to P5 receive a free school meal as well as those families on qualifying benefits.

Where a pupil is in P1 to P5 and parents meet the eligibility criteria, the parent should apply for free school meals in order to receive free breakfast club, holiday food payments and the Family Bridging Payments. Those that are eligible will also receive a clothing grant payment.

In primary schools, a healthy and nutritional lunch is available to all children.

Our menu has been devised in line with the Health Promotion and Nutrition Scotland Act (2007) which means your child can choose a well balanced nutritious meal.

Primary School pupils' daily choice

For the price of £2.45, your child is entitled to a 2 course meal and can have as much salad or vegetables as they wish to accompany their lunch.

There will always be a vegetarian option provided.

Milk and water will be available every day with the meal and is included in the price.

We operate an annual menu, which runs from August to June with a three week menu cycle. Special theme days are held throughout the year for example Burns Night.

Along with the desserts shown on the menu, a selection of fresh fruits will be available daily as an alternative.

Early Learning and Childcare settings

All eligible children attending a local authority Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) setting over the lunch time period will be provided with a free lunch. The lunches provided are based on the nutritional requirements in the NHS Setting the table guidance publication.

All children are eligible for a free lunch from the term after their third birthday up until they attend Primary School.  Some 2 year old children are also eligible.

Partner childminders and partner nurseries are provided with funding to provide a free lunch for eligible children when children attend over the lunch time period.

As is the case for free school lunches, the up-take of the free meal is optional. Parents who prefer to provide their child with a packed lunch are free to do so but must ensure ice packs are included in the lunch bag.
