Service specifics

The Educational Psychology Service (EPS) in Clackmannanshire works with children and young people, families, schools and communities to help children learn, develop and thrive when they experience barriers to learning or wellbeing.

EPs apply psychological theory, research and assessment skills to understand how children learn and how their social, emotional and developmental needs can best be supported. They work at all levels of the education system, including early intervention, prevention and capacity building, as well as individual assessment/intervention.

EPs can

  • support learning and inclusion by helping schools understand and respond to additional support needs
  • promote wellbeing and resilience, mental health and positive relationships
  • consult with teachers, parents and carers to develop effective strategies
  • assess needs when required, using observation, consultation and psychological assessment
  • contribute to plans and reviews, such as Child’s Plans and Team Around the Child meetings
  • support safeguarding and care experienced children, working closely with social work and health colleagues
  • build staff confidence and skills through training, consultation and research informed practice

The EPS also oversee the operation of a range of mental health services for children and young people, including Counselling in Schools and the Creative Therapeutic Interventions for Children Service. More information on the Counselling service can be found here.

Process

All educational establishments in Clackmannanshire have an EP who links with them and visits in a regular visit pattern. The easiest way to access an EP is via the staged intervention process in the educational establishment your child/young person attends.

You and your child/young person will always be asked to give consent to an EP becoming involved, and you can change your mind about that at any point. You can view the EPS privacy notice about how we use and store your data here.
