Taxi and Private Hire Drivers, Operators and Metal Dealers - tax check for licence renewals

This is an important announcement regarding certain licence renewals and new applications.

From 2 October 2023, all taxi and private hire car drivers, taxi booking office operators and metal dealers renewing their licences must complete a tax check.

Further details of the legislative changes can be found in Part 7, paragraph 342 of the Finance (No. 2) Act 2023.

Who needs to complete the tax check?

If you are renewing your taxi or private hire car drivers licence, or taxi booking office licence after 2 October, 2023, you must complete a tax check.

The tax check is mandatory for licence renewals submitted after 2 October, 2023 – be prepared.

Consequences of not complying

By law Clackmannanshire Council can not process your application without completing this tax check. Please ensure that you provide the correct information and a tax check code that is less than 120 days old along with your renewal application.

Failure to provide the required information could result in your application being returned and your entitlement to drive a taxi or private hire car coming to an end.

New applications

If you are applying for a new licence to drive a taxi or private hire car in Clackmannanshire and you have held the same type of licence in the last year, then you will also have to follow this procedure.
