The Council, in collaboration with a number of partners, delivered a set of innovative projects in Alloa town centre, which were completed in 2022.
This included a dementia friendly housing development by Kingdom Housing Association. This 60 flat development has transformed the vacant Co-op site on Primrose Street.
The project also included an active travel hub. This facility is another example of collaborative working, the building being owned by the Council but leased to a community benefit company formed by CTSI and Alloa First. Itl provides a focus for promotion of town centre activities, business promotions, and festive events as well as visitor information and gifts. The Hub is home to the Clackmannanshire Tapestry.
Living Alloa also included a range of streetscape improvements designed to make the town centre safer and more enjoyable for people to move through and spend time in. The opening up of a lane between King Street carpark and Drysdale Street revealed blank walls which then became a canvas for an iconic mural produced by local artists Ross Hastie and Michael Corr following a competition.
The project was funded by the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Fund which aimed to encourage town centres to diversify and flourish.
