Roads & Transportation

The Roads & Transportation Service is responsible for all the statutory functions of the Council as Roads, Traffic and Public Transport Authority. We also carry out the statutory functions in respect of Flood Prevention & Reservoirs and provide a multi-disciplinary Design Consultancy Service.

Roads & Traffic

Management & maintenance of public roads and bridges is an important element of our Service, this includes:-

  • Inspection, survey and assessment of road conditions.
  • Design and supervision of structural, routine, cyclic and street lighting maintenance and improvements.
  • Winter maintenance gritting and snow clearance.
  • Managing activity on the road network by pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
  • Managing activities carried out on the public road by public utilities (Scottish Power, Transco, etc.) and developers.
  • Accident Investigation and Prevention.
  • Managing car parks and onstreet parking throughout the Council's area.
  • Managing the transportation impacts of new developments.

Public Transport

Public Transport plays an important part in the Council's future transportation strategies. The Public Transport Unit, jointly operated with Stirling Council, carries out the following tasks:-

  • Undertakes the assessment of need for subsidised public transport and 'special needs' services and the letting of contracts for such services.
  • The review and administration of the Council's Concessionary Fares Scheme.
  • The monitoring of all public transport services.
  • The provision of appropriate public transport infrastructure including:-
    • bus shelters;
    • bus service information;
    • rail service information.
