Devon Colliery Beam Engine House

Devon Colliery Beam Engine House

(1865), Equestrian Centre, Near Fishcross

Beam Engine HouseDevon Colliery closed and was razed to the ground many years ago. Only the beam engine house survives. It is a tall, rectangular building of high quality, with a hipped slate roof. A Cornish Pumping Engine built by Neilson & Co was used to drain the mine shaft but only the massive cast-iron beam and pump have survived.

In 1993 the building was restored and converted carefully to office space by the creation of two mezzanine floors, without destroying the appearance of a tall, single space interior. The building is now empty and awaiting a new use.
