Ending your Tenancy

Ending your Tenancy

If you wish to end your tenancy you must give us at least 28 days written notice.

The 4 week period starts only once we have received the Termination of Tenancy form. Any joint tenant must also sign the form to show that they agree the tenancy is to be ended.

It is important to tell us the date you are moving out and your new address. You should also tell us who supplies your gas and electricity.

Before you leave you should:

  • ensure the property is clean and in good condition,
  • take all your belongings from your property including the loft and garden,
  • pay the rent and any other charges due to us,
  • take final meter readings for your gas and electricity.

The tenant must hand the keys back within 4 weeks of the start of the termination period.

If you are moving from one council tenancy to another, you may not be required to provide the full 4 weeks notice. This will be discussed with you when you are arranging your move.

In the circumstance of a tenant's death, a nominated person or next of kin may hand in the keys.
