We have a number of arrangements for assessing how well we are working and to identify how we can improve. This is important for providing assurance to the Scottish Government and our customers that we are working well to deliver better outcomes for our communities.
Public Service Improvement Framework (PSIF)
We use PSIF as a self-assessment approach to support our continued improvement. PSIF provides us with a structured framework for evaluating:
We have used PSIF many times over the years, including self-assessing the Clackmannanshire Alliance and individual Council services.
In spring 2024 we undertook a corporate self-assessment with support from the Improvement Service PSIF team. This is informing preparations for our Best Value audit expected during 2024, as well as telling us where our strengths lie and helping us plan and define what improvements we need to make to ensure our services remain fit for purpose.
Data Maturity Assessment
We are part of a cohort of ten selected local government and public sector organisations led by the Scottish Government to undertake a Data Maturity Assessment during 2024. We hold a very large amount of data so we want to know where we are currently, in terms of data maturity, but also how we can improve and realise more value from our data. We will use these findings to begin our data transformation journey, to support our improvement processes and to develop a Data Strategy.
Annual Governance Statement
Services complete a Governance review each year to ensure that appropriate and adequate internal controls are in place within their respective areas to improve the effectiveness of the Council's governance framework (see Local Code of Governance).
Additional Arrangements
There are additional service-specific self-assessment arrangements, such as in Education and Social Services (within the People Directorate) some of which have the option of independent validation.
