The Council is responsible for providing and maintaining good quality street lighting across the district making our communities safer, extending the leisure and working day and reducing the risk of crime.
The Street Lighting Team is responsible for:
The Council is investing significant resources into energy saving schemes which will reduce our future power bills and carbon emissions.
We are replacing conventional street lights with LED street lights.
As well as using up to 60% less energy than existing units, the individual LED units last up to 20 years, significantly reducing the need for future maintenance.
Following successful trials of the LED technology, works to upgrade street lights started in December 2014.
A phased programme is being developed, with phase 1 taking place in Clackmannan and Tullibody. Funding for the full project has been provisionally allocated through to completion in 2019/20.
Disruption in each street will depend on the condition of the existing units. In most cases only the lantern on top of each column will be changed with disruption to residents and businesses kept to a minimum.
However, new columns and possibly underground cabling will be required in some areas. In these cases, affected residents and businesses will be notified in advance.
Further information on the planned scheme is available via this page. Updates to the programme will be provided regularly.
