Bat friendly street lighting

Bat friendly street lighting

Infrared street lighting has been installed along the cycle path between Alva and Tillicoultry. These lights look red to us, but they help promote bats' natural behaviour.

Bats are nocturnal, which means they come out at night. Bright white lights are known to scare or confuse their natural flying paths.

Red light is gentle and doesn't interfere with a bat's sensitive eyes or hunting patterns. It helps them fly, find food, and feel safe.

The Bat Conservation Trust website is available for more information on bats.
