Wildlife Rescue

For information about avian influenza (bird flu) please see the dedicated Bird Flu page on this site.

If you wish to report an animal in distress then you should contact the SSPCA on their emergency number, which is on the following site: http://www.scottishspca.org

The Ranger Service assists these organisations with wildlife rescue in Clackmannanshire. Most of this is rescuing swans from Gartmorn Dam and the Delph Pond in Tullibody. Types of injury can vary from flying in to power lines to suffering as a result of discarded litter, but by far the greatest injuries caused to swans in this area is from discarded fishing tackle.

While swans can benefit from being fed bread, this can cause over familiarity with people and can lead to harassment or injury from other territorial swans.

Any injured wildlife picked up by the Ranger Service is transported in animal carriers to the SSPCA or directly to a local vet in Alloa for treatment.

We need your help to prevent injury to wildlife!

  • Please take all you litter home particularly fishing tackle.
  • Please leave young animals as you find them - they will probably still be getting fed by their parents.
  • If you see anyone deliberately harming wildlife please contact the Police or the Ranger Service using the details below.
