A range of local agencies have joined forces to ensure local unemployed people get every opportunity of a job at the new Asda store.

The supermarket is currently under construction on the site of the former Alloa Brewery and will create 300 jobs when it opens its doors in the autumn.

New Approaches, Jobcentre Plus and Triage Central Ltd are working together with Asda and Clackmannanshire Council to ensure unemployed applicants are well informed and prepared to successfully compete for employment. Asda, which actively encourages mature applicants, is equally interested in meeting people who are looking for a career change and a new challenge.

A job fair held on Thursday 15th June attracted over 1000 people to Alloa Town Hall and was hailed as a great success.

Jeanie Robin of New Approaches said, "We are delighted to be working with Asda on this project and hope the community can reap the benefits that this major multi-national company will bring to the area."

Sarah Sanderson, General Manager of Triage, added, "This an excellent opportunity to work closely with a major employer to ensure their recruitment needs are met while at the same time creating excellent job opportunities for local people."

Helen Millard, Jobcentre Plus Business Manager in Alloa, said, "Jobcentre Plus are working very closely with Asda to support their recruitment and provide opportunities for our customers to fill the Alloa store jobs. The Asda recruitment day at Alloa Town Hall on 15th June was very successful and was attended by over 1000 applicants from locations throughout Clackmannanshire."
