The Forth Valley Special Olympic Team is set to be honoured at a Civic Reception this week, hosted by Provost Derek Stewart of Clackmannanshire Council.

A team of 28 athletes from Clackmannanshire, Stirling and Falkirk  competed in the Glasgow 2005 Great Britain Special Olympics in July. The Forth Valley Team were represented in five sports - basketball, equestrian, gymnastics, indoor bowls and swimming and returned from the week-long event with a fantastic haul of medals and ribbons (Full results below).

The gymnasts did particularly well winning 12 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze medals, while the swimmers brought home 10 gold, 7 silvers and 5 bronze medals.

Now the 3 local authorities are set to congratulate the team at a Civic Reception held at Alloa Town Hall on Thursday 22nd September. You are invited to send a photographer to the venue at 6.15pm when the team will be welcomed by Forth Valley's three Provosts.

To mark the team's tremendous success Provost Derek Stewart from Clackmannanshire, Provost Colin O'Brien from Stirling and Provost Jim Johnston from Falkirk will come together at the Civic Reception to congratulate the athletes, coaches, volunteers and sponsors. Clackmannanshire's Councillor Walter McAdam will also speak at the event, while Sally Pearce from Forth Valley Disability Sport will make a presentation.

Provost Derek Stewart said: "I am delighted to be able to acknowledge the Forth Valley Special Olympics Team's achievements with a Civic Reception hosted in Clackmannanshire. I am impressed with the huge enthusiasm for sport shown by the 28 athletes and with the commitment and passion of Forth Valley's team of 17 coaches."
