A new Director of Services to People and Head of Accountancy have been appointed to the Council.
Heading up the new education, community, social services and housing service - now Services to People - is David Jones, currently Assistant Director of Education and Community Services with Sunderland City Council.
David qualified as a teacher in 1971. He attended Didsbury College of Education, Manchester (specialising in Mathematics and Chemistry). Later he did a BA through the Open University (1976-80) in Maths, Statistics and Education. He started teaching at Hylton Red House in Sunderland, a comprehensive school of 2,400 and in the following 20 years moved to four further secondary schools in Sunderland area. In 1991 he became deputy headteacher at Washington School, Sunderland and in 1993 became headteacher of the same school.
David took up his current post of Assistant Director (Strategic Services), Education and Community Services within City of Sunderland in January 2000. He has responsibility for Finance (Education, Libraries, Arts, Museums, Youth, Community Education) Personnel Services, Policy and Planning, Performance Management and Best Value.
He is also link officer for all primary schools and leads on a raft of initiatives including working on a recruitment and retention initiative encompassing some new approaches to filling vacancies and providing supply cover.
He is also currently also a lay inspector for Social Services in County Durham.
David (51) was appointed to the post last week (Friday.) He is married to wife Barbara and has two daughters Alexandria and Karen and one grandson Mark who live in Scotland.Outside of work his interests include visiting National Trust properties and birdwatching. David is also a member of MENSA.
Muir Wilson was also told of his new job last week (Monday.) The new Head of Accountancy is currently Principal Accountant at Clackmannanshire.
Brought up in Ayr, Muir (42) has the same `honest man' reputation as his home town's football team, Ayr United. After going to school in Ayr, he gained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accountancy at Glasgow College of Technology (now Glasgow Caledonian University). This was also where he met his wife Moira - they have been married for nearly 18 years.
Muir is a fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, and joined Clackmannanshire from Fife Council in 1996. Previously he was with Dunfermline District Council for nearly seven years prior to reorganisation and has worked in private practice.
Outside of work his interests are playing golf and skiing. Last year he took two lorries filled with humanitarian aid over to Croatia, and hopes to go back again. Muir lives in Dunfermline with his wife and three children, Hazel, Emma and Murray.
