Community Council Interim Elections in Alva and Clackmannan

Wednesday 23rd September 2026 | Elections

Residents in Clackmannan and Alva are invited to stand for election to their area’s community council.

Nominations for Alva and Clackmannan Community Councils will open on Thursday, 24 September, as part of Interim Elections which will run through September and October.

Interim community council elections fill vacancies only, so existing members remain in place.  Alva has nine vacancies and Clackmannan has six vacancies.

Anyone who is over the age of 16 and who appears on our electoral roll in the community council area can stand for election, and propose or second someone else to stand.

These elections are designed to ensure that residents have a say in who represents the views of the area in the matters which concern them.

There is an official nomination form which must be completed and validated before the deadline of 4pm on Thursday, 8 October.

Provost Donald Balsillie said community councils have a vital statutory role to play in liaising with the Council to ensure local voices are heard.

He said: “I would encourage people who wish to play a greater and more active role in their communities to take the first step now and come forward for nomination.”

Notices about interim community council elections are going up at key community locations in the two areas inviting residents to make nominations to their respective community councils.  You can find out more about your community council by visiting their website or social media.

Clackmannanshire Council administers the elections on behalf of the community councils.
