Residents from five of Clackmannanshire’s communities have elected the community councillors who will represent their interests over the next four years.
Members of Alloa, Clackmannan, Menstrie, Muckhart and Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton & Devonside Community Councils were elected unopposed and their term of office will begin today, Friday 22 August.
The three areas of Alva, Dollar and Sauchie & Fishcross unfortunately received less than the required minimum number of nominees resulting in no community councillors being elected.
Due to this, the nomination period for these three areas has been extended for one further week.
Nominations, for these three areas only, will be accepted up to 4pm on Thursday, 28 August.
Provost Donald Balsillie said: “It is encouraging to see people come forward to serve the communities of Alloa, Clackmannan, Menstrie, Muckhart and Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton & Devonside and I wish them all well in their roles.
“I would urge people from Alva, Dollar and Sauchie & Fishcross to consider coming forward and becoming a community councillor.
“Community councillors have a vital part to play in liaising with the Council to ensure local views are considered and are involved extensively in negotiations with the Council and other agencies about matters affecting their area.
“If you want to play your part, this is a great way to get actively involved in your community.”
Community councils are bound by a governance framework which is strictly applied to ensure they legitimately and democratically represent their respective areas.
It requires people to go through an open election process in order to become community councillors.
Nomination forms can be obtained from the Council’s website or Election Office.
