An inspection report highlighting a number of strengths at Deerpark Primary School has been published, following a visit by a team from Education Scotland in April this year.
The school was given a ‘Good’ rating in the ‘ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion’ quality indicator, with the close partnership staff have built with families and their young people shown as a key strength.
Strengths include:
· The effective leadership of the headteacher, who is supported fully by her senior leadership team and staff. Together they have worked well to lead improvements in the school. This includes creating the correct climate for learning.
· Staff work together enthusiastically and support each other to improve outcomes for children. They recognise and value opportunities to work with partners and have developed strong relationships with parents and the wider community. Parents are becoming increasingly confident to be involved in their children’s learning.
· As a team, staff have created a calm, purposeful learning environment in which children and adults demonstrate mutual respect. This nurturing, caring environment supports children well to be happy, friendly and kind to each other.
The report stated that the headteacher is highly regarded in the school, the community and by staff in the local authority.
Deerpark Primary Headteacher Anne Rice said: “I am delighted with progress in our school, and I’m pleased that the hard work of our team ensures that our learners are supported to succeed.
“I am incredibly grateful to all members of the Deerpark community. Working in close partnership with our families ensures our supports go beyond the classroom. We will continue to set high expectations for all of our learners and support them to thrive”.
Councillor Graham Lindsay, education spokesperson, said: “I’m pleased at the progress in Deerpark Primary. The Headteacher and staff should be proud of the improvements that have been made in recent years, with children and families benefitting from the approaches that are being embedded.
“I look forward to see continued progress in Deerpark, and I want to thank the school community for all that they do to support the children”.
