Residents rallied in support of their community council this week and a total of eight new community councillors have now been elected.

Alloa Community Council has filled eight vacancies with newly-elected members who may start with immediate effect following the outcome of the first stage of interim elections.  They were all elected unopposed and, accordingly, the interim election process is now complete.

Provost Donald Balsillie said: “With residents coming forward to fill these vacancies, we really get to see how just a small number of people can make a big difference.  I am delighted for Alloa Community Council for whom these people were the difference between carrying on or closing down.

“Alloa Community Council has a large and diverse area to cover but have managed to campaign in the interests of all the residents they represent. This timely boost to their numbers will strengthen the collective voice of Alloa residents.

“I congratulate all the newly-elected community councillors on their election and I wish them well in their new positions”.

In the election for Alva Community Council, no new nominees came forward and Alva Community Council will continue to operate with the current membership of Community Councillors.

Community Councils are an important channel of communication and means of representation on a wide range of matters which affect their community.  Community councillors are all volunteers and the support they receive from residents is vital in their work. Members of the public may attend their meetings to observe proceedings.

The results of the election can be found on the Clackmannanshire Council's website

Note to editor:

Nominations for the interim elections opened on 21st September and closed at 4pm on 13th October. The declaration of results was made on 14th October.

Each nominee must have the support of two other members of the community to be valid.

The interim election process is administered by Clackmannanshire Council.  The choice of community councillors lies solely with residents in an interim election, and the community council has no role in selection.
