Plans to relocate Lochies School from Sauchie to Alloa have been discussed by councillors.

A report to today’s meeting of the Council set out how the school’s current location, size, layout and access are presenting significant issues.

The school, which has 37 pupils, is attached to Deerpark Primary. It is proposed that the school be relocated to The Pavilions in Alloa West.

Council agreed that a formal consultation, as required under the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010, will be undertaken over the winter/spring 2022/23.

Lochies is a school for primary aged children with profound, multiple, severe and complex additional support needs who require a significant level of additional support to access learning.

An options appraisal of the building found that staff are meeting the needs of pupils, but the building is making this more and more challenging.

A new build Lochies would enrich the educational experience of pupils by providing equality, ensuring that the needs of all Clackmannanshire pupils can be met.

Councillor Graham Lindsay, Education spokesperson said: “Our Learning Estate Strategy sets out our ambitious priorities for education in Clackmannanshire. We’ve already delivered fantastic modern facilities including the impressive Tullibody South Campus and the extended and refurbished Early Learning and Childcare provision at Park Primary School. We want to see that progress continue with modern, flexible and inclusive facilities for all Clackmannanshire’s children and young people, including those with additional support needs. This options appraisal reinforces our recent decision to build the new Wellbeing Hub at the Alloa West, Pavillions site.”

The Pavilions was recently chosen as the site for the new Wellbeing Hub, opening up potential synergies for both projects.

The new school, which will be designed to accommodate up to 54 pupils, would be predicted to open in late 2027.
