Alva Academy Wins at Scottish Education Awards

Excellence in Clackmannanshire education has been recognised in the prestigious Scottish Education Awards, with Alva Academy winning two awards at the ceremony in Glasgow.

The school won in two categories, having been nominated in four categories.

David Clifford, won the Teacher of the Year category, which recognises teachers who are bringing learning to life by engaging and inspiring all children and young people to fulfil their potential.

Alva Academy also received the Secondary Making a Difference award, which goes to the school that has shown effectiveness in transforming the life chances of the children and young people which it serves.

Other nominations were also received in the categories of Curriculum Innovation and for Shiona Finn for Lifetime Achievement.

Cllr Graham Lindsay, Spokesperson for Education, said: “We are all tremendously proud that Alva Academy received four nominations for the Scottish Education Awards, and received two awards at the ceremony.

“Winning in important categories such as Teacher of the Year, and Making a Difference is a wonderful achievement for the whole school community.

“Being shortlisted and winning in the Scottish Education Awards is a sign of the very high ambitions we have for the educational opportunities offered to our young people in Clackmannanshire, and of the hard work and dedication of their teachers and school staff.  The Council is determined that all pupils are supported to achieve the very best they can, and to be prepared to take every opportunity to thrive in their lives.”
