The Council has expressed its pride in the hard work and resilience of Clackmannanshire’s young people as they receive their results from the SQA today.

Today’s results are the culmination of years of hard work by pupils, who have been supported throughout by their teachers and families.  This support has been particularly important as our young people have navigated coping with lockdown and the disruption caused by Covid-19.

Results this year continue to reflect the diversity in young peoples’ pathways through our education system with no learner journey being the same. Our schools ensure that each young person is able to fulfil their potential by attaining the highest level of qualifications possible with better option choice and support so they receive the best possible experience and follow the appropriate learner journey to help them reach a positive destination.

Overall there is improvement in the pass rate in both National 5 and Higher level with all three secondary schools reporting improvement. Our poverty related attainment gap also narrowed this year which means young people from our most disadvantaged areas gained more qualifications in than in previous years. This was the same for our Looked After Children who also gained more qualifications this year. There is also improvement in English at both National 5 and Higher and Maths at National 5.

Councillor Graham Lindsay, Spokesperson for Education added his own praise for the pupils: “I’m lucky enough to see first hand how amazing Clackmannanshire’s young people are, and I congratulate them all on their wonderful achievements.  It’s really important that we all take the time to show our admiration for their hard work, as these results are the culmination of years of effort and application.  None of this would be possible without the dedication of our wonderful teachers and the support of pupil’s families.

“There’s help and advice available from both schools and partners for anyone with questions, so I’d encourage pupils and families to get in touch. For those who have now left school, good luck with the next stage of your life.  If you’re returning to Alloa, Alva or Lornshill Academies next week – your teachers can’t wait to see you and continue your learning journey together.”

School staff are available with help and advice for pupils and families, and you can also contact the Skills Development Scotland exam results helpline on 0808 100 8000. On social media there is the Developing the Young Workforce #NoWrongPath campaign, Childline advice and BBC Bitesize There is also support for those young people taking part in the MCR Pathways project.
