Council Modern Apprentices Celebrated

Modern Apprentices supported by the Council who have recently completed their training have been presented with certificates by Provost Tina Murphy.

The apprentices were praised for their achievements at the ceremony in the Council Chambers, which took place during Scottish Apprenticeship Week.

For many years, the Council has been both a training provider for and an employer of Modern Apprentices. The Council currently employs 30 Modern Apprentices and recruits young people as Modern Apprentices on an on-going basis.

As a training provider, the Council currently deliver Modern Apprenticeships in a range of sectors including Business Administration, Childcare, Construction and Sport for the Council and other local businesses.

As the biggest employer locally, the Council has made a commitment to increase the number and range of Modern Apprentices it recruits across Council services. This is in support of Scotland's Youth Employment Strategy, Developing the Young Workforce, which aims to reduce youth unemployment by 40% by 2021.

By helping Council services with some of the wage costs of recruiting a Modern Apprentice, the Facilities Management service has recently taken on a Modern Apprentice in Facilities Management and our catering service, Class Cuisine has recruited a Modern Apprentice in Professional Cookery.

Provost Tina Murphy said: "Congratulations to all the Modern Apprentices on completing their training. I'm very pleased that the Council is supporting so many Modern Apprentices to help them to get valuable training and work experience so that they can take advantage of employment opportunities and meet their full potential. I'd also encourage any local employers who haven't yet done so to consider developing their business by taking on Modern Apprentices."

Modern Apprentice opportunities at the Council are advertised on the myjobscotland website.

The apprentices who received certificates are: Ross McConnell, Rhys Cooper, Ashleigh Gardiner, Rhea McFarlane, Amy Gillon, Erin Fullerton, Eva Carberry, Hannah Keen
Andrew Gibson, Carol Lynn McKenzie, Natasha Jack, Danielle Bridges, Shannon Murray, Ashleigh Honeyman, Chloe Wotherspoon, Jordan Spiers, Craig McKeown and Claire Banks.
