Hundreds of spectators, players, referees and officials supported the annual badminton championships in Clackmannanshire at Lornshill Academy on 26th January. Over 100 young people competed for medals and trophies - double the number of competitors from previous years.
The event is for pupils in P1 to S6 and many primary and secondary schools across Clackmannanshire were represented, along with competitors from primary and secondary schools in Falkirk and Stirling. Organised by the Council's sports development team this year the event was sponsored by R. J. M Sports Ltd. Robert Marshall generously provided medals and trophies for the winners and extra prizes from Yonex as special awards.
The competition was organised into pools and a total of seven badminton courts were used. The standard of play in all age categories was high and there were some hard fought games. The support of the organisers, sponsors and supporters and the young leaders who refereed the games helped make the event such a success.
There are a number of badminton opportunities in Clackmannanshire for anyone who wants to improve their badminton skills with games on Friday evenings at Alloa Academy. For anyone who would like to attend badminton coaching, the Council plans to set up as a new series of classes, with coaching costing £3.50 per session.
