The Food Standards Agency have informed us of further contamination of products with Sudan 1 dye, a colouring not permitted to be used in food as it is considered to be a carcinogen.
Products containing Sudan 1 present a risk to health if consumed in sufficient quantities.
Whilst a trade withdrawal of the affected products is underway it is important that members of the public check their cupboards for the products. Catering premises should also check their stocks for the products. The products are manufactured by TRS Wholesale Company Ltd.
If any of the undernoted products are found they should be safely disposed of or returned to the shop/wholesaler with a request for a refund.
CONTAMINATION OF TRS WHOLESALE COMPANY LTD BRAND TANDOORI MASALA BARBECUE GROUND SPICE AND TANDOORI MASALA GROUND SPICE AND TANDOORI MASALA NATURAL CLEAR POWDER WITH SUDAN 1 DYE
The products have been on sale in TRS Wholesale Company Ltd. Cash and Carry outlets in Southall, Bethnal Green and Walthamstow in London. TRS Wholesale Company Ltd. has also distributed the products widely throughout the United Kingdom to retailers, cash and carry stores, other distributors, caterers and manufacturers.
TRS Wholesale Company Ltd. has undertaken a trade withdrawal of all of these products in all sizes and of all Best Before dates up to and including July 2005. Previously FHW 21/2003 related to specific batch codes of these products. However this food hazard warning relates to all of these products of all sizes and to all Best Before dates up to and including July 2005, regardless of batch code.
No other TRS brand products are known to be affected.
Identification of the product.
The Tandoori Masala Barbecue Ground Spice and Tandoori Masala Ground Spice and Tandoori Masala Natural Clear Powder are packed into 100g, 400g and 1kg clear plastic sachets that are heat sealed at each end. The front of the pack displays the TRS Logo in the top left-hand corner with the product description adjacent to it. The centre of the pack shows a female dressed in red and orange preparing food. The weight of the pack is in the bottom right hand corner. The ingredients are displayed on the back of the packet.
