Council Leader Councillor Gary Womersley was the guest of honour at last week's annual prize giving at Lornshill Academy.

A former pupil of the school, it was the first time that Councillor Womersley was able to visit the school since becoming Council Leader in January 2012.

"It was a great honour and a privilege to present the Special Awards at such a distinguished event, and particularly to the pupils at my former school," said Councillor Womersley. "I enjoyed many happy years at the school and I was extremely proud to be returning to the school for the first time in my capacity as Council Leader."

Acting Head teacher Ann Floyd welcomed everyone to the event before the award ceremony was introduced by Depute head Jacqui Dunlop.

The S4 Awards - Subject Awards and For Merit were presented by Elaine Whyte, followed by a musical Interlude with the Academy Singers performing Jubilate Deo.

The S5 Awards - Subject Awards and For Merit were then presented by Rowena Barnet.

Councillor Womersley was then invited forward to present the S6 Awards - Subject Awards and For Merit. He then addressed the pupils and invited guests.

There was another musical Interlude with Under The Sea and the Lion Sleeps Tonight performed by the newly formed Ochil Steel Band.

Special Awards were then handed out, again by Councillor Womersley, before the Dux Awards were presented by Mrs Floyd
