Active Start, Clackmannanshire Council's pre-school sports team, have been busy working with the children who regularly attend sessions of gymnastics classes at the Speirs Centre in Alloa. The children have been working towards their British Gymnastics pre-school proficiency awards since September last year and many have attained badges 1, 2 and 3.

Councillor Bobby McGill, spokesman for sport, said: "Active Start Gymnastics provides a structured learning experience whilst still maintaining a fun element for the children. The standard of gymnastics the children have attained is excellent. Tthey have had to work very hard to succeed with these challenges and attaining these awards is a great achievement for them. We are proud of them all and hopefully many of them will now continue with gymnastics via sports development classes or local gymnastics clubs."

Active Start is a fun programme where children can enjoy activities which help to shape their movement patterns and develop their basic motor skills and co-ordination as well as helping their overall physical and social development.

Places on Clackmannanshire Council's Sports Development Summer Programme are now available to book, telephone 01259 213131. Active Start will hold a gymnastic week, as well as a football week and a dance Week and spaces are still available. The regular blocks of 10 week sessions will commence week beginning 5th September.
