Director of Services to Communities Garry Dallas said: ""The Council agreed in February, as part of the budget, to replace the existing public toilets at Tron Court, Tullibody, Murray Square, Tillicoultry, and close Maple Court, Alloa, making a saving of £68,000. New superloo type automatic toilets will be installed in Tullibody and Tillicoultry in the autumn.
"The existing toilets in Tullibody and Tillicoultry will remain open until the new toilets have been installed. The toilets at Maple Court closed at the end of March and the Council is currently in the process of reviewing signage to raise awareness of the many alternative facilities.
"There are alternative public toilets in Alloa town centre at the Speirs Centre, and the toilets at the Council offices at Greenfield House and Lime Tree House are open to the public. We are also in the process of trying to make the toilets at Kilncraigs accessible to the public. We have also been in contact again with the managers of our town centre supermarkets, Tesco and Asda, who have reiterated that they are happy for the public to use their facilities.
"The decision to close the dedicated toilets at Maple Court was a tough one, and more tough decisions will have to be made as we see further reductions in real terms to public sector budgets over the coming years. Elsewhere in Clackmannanshire, the Council will continue to provide access to public toilets in our civic/leisure centres. This will include a programme of refurbishment for some facilities such as at the Speirs Centre, Alloa, and Johnstone Centre, Alva and as the Council starts to prepare budgets for the next few years and agrees spending priorities I am sure there will be further difficult decisions to be faced."
