A group of Alloa mums have new found confidence after taking part in an art project at the Make Room.
The Mix & Match Group, which is based at the Alloa Family Centre, have worked together with Alloa potter and artist in residence Fiona Byrne Sutton to create an artwork in clay. While participating in the Imagine Alloa community regeneration project, the mums are learning new skills, raising their confidence and self esteem levels and showing themselves and their families that they are contributing to their community.
With the additional support of an adult outreach worker from the Council's Community Learning and Development team, the mums are delighted that their completed work may be displayed in Alloa town centre.
A vacant shop in Drysdale Street has been transformed in the Make Room as part of the Imagine Alloa project. Fiona Byrne Sutton is one of a handful of artists based in the studio/workshop space.
The clay workshops have taken place over 20 weeks and the final artwork will illustrate Alloa's landmarks and former industries including brewing, textiles, the train station, the docks, Alloa Tower, the glassworks and the Ochils.
Mix & Match group member Susan Dixon said: "It's great to be given an opportunity to get involved in something like this."
Patricia Hunter added: "Displaying our work in Alloa will enhance and promote all the great work done at the Alloa Family Centre."
Council leader Janet Cadenhead said: "The clay workshops at the Make Room have been a great opportunity for the Mix & Match mums to get involved in the Imagine Alloa project. The parents have thoroughly enjoyed the experience, they have made new friends, and they have become more confident and will be delighted to see their work displayed in Alloa giving them a sense of pride and achievement."
