The infant wing of Abercromby Primary School has been fully refurbished ready to welcome the new intake of P1s.

New acoustic ceilings, low energy lighting controlled through motion detectors, a Soundfield system and interactive whiteboard technology have been installed. Soundfield is an audio enhancement system which gently raises the level of the teacher's voice allowing every pupil to be able to hear equally, no matter where they are in the classroom.

The three classrooms and open plan area have been redecorated in cream and red, plus new carpets and a new cloakroom area created. Hand dryers have also been installed in the toilets reducing waste by removing the need for paper towels. The wing has also been reroofed.

The Council has invested £40,000 in the revamp.

Head Teacher Joyce Ferguson said: "The infant wing was in need of a facelift and it now looks lovely. I'm very happy with it, the P1 infant staff are also delighted with the refurbishment.and I'm sure the children will be too."

A total of 51 P1 pupils will start their formal education at Abercromby Primary on 18th August 2008.

You are invited to send a photographer to the school at 11.15am on Monday 18th August to see the newly refurbished infant wing.

Improvement works still in the pipeline for Abercromby include an extension to the nursery and a full accessible, ramped, entrance to the school.

All this work is being carried out as part of the Council's strategy to meet the needs of the growing Tullibody community.
