The 5th Scottish Gymnastics Regional School Heats took place on Sunday 25th November at Tulligarth Community Leisure Complex with over 240 gymnasts from primary, secondary and special schools competing. There were 38 teams from primary schools across Clackmannanshire, and 10 teams from secondary schools across Stirling and Clackmannanshire. The pupils' confidence and improved skill level is evident in the increased number of level 2 teams participating. Tillicoultry primary school entered a spectacular 9 teams all kitted out in matching school tracksuit tops and kit.

For the first time this year there was an ASN section, with gymnasts performing a floor routine and demonstrating skill on the vault.

There were four different categories and the winning two teams in each category qualified to represent Clackmannanshire the Scottish Schools final at Bells Sports Centre, Perth on Sunday 15th March 2008. Thanks to sports development for organising the event to which there were over 700 spectators, participants and officials, this makes this year the best attended so far.

Sponsorship was gratefully received from the Co-op in Alva. Lesley Robertson, the Council's Service Manager for Continuous Improvement and 3-12 Education presented medals and shields and observed much of the performances. She said:" This is a great turn out. I am delighted to see so many schools represented today. The children have obviously been working hard over the last few months to prepare for this event. My congratulations go to them, their teachers and coaches and also to their families for bringing along today - they behaved wonderfully and look spectacular. "

The event was organised by Clackmannanshire Council's Sports Development Team, with tremendous support from Hillfoots Gymnastic Club and Alloa Gymnastic Club with a particular mention going to Andrea McFarlane, Trisha MacDonald, and Lynne Scotland for their technical input. A thanks also goes to the gymnasts who acted as runners from Hillfoots Gymnastics Club and the Judges from Scottish Gymnastics for not only judging but for the feedback they provided to gymnasts that will only help them to continue improving. A final thanks goes to our main sponsor for the event, the Alva Co-op.
