11 lucky Primary 5 pupils from Sunnyside Primary and Tillicoultry Primary made their way to The Open Golf Championships on 18th July, which are being held in Carnoustie this year.

The 2 schools were winners of the Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Sports Association's annual Golf Festival which was held on 27th March and organised by Clackmannanshire Council's Sports Development and supported by Alloa Rotary Club.

School teams consisted of between 6-8 primary 5 pupils who chipped and putted their way round an indoor course. As winners of this festival, the following pupils were treated to this special outing which gave them the opportunity to watch some of the top golfers in the world during their practise days - Caitlin Hunter, Zoe Gallacher, Louise Imrie, Amy Tinline, Daniel Bonello and Dylon Mack all Tillicoultry Primary and Eilidh Mackay, Catrina Glancy, Jonathan Evans, Dillon Allan and John Turner all Sunnyside Primary. The pupils got the chance to walk round the course, take part in some coaching and games sessions and also to visit the souvenir shops situated within The Open site. They were also very lucky to meet one of the players Jose-Filipe Lima who is the number one golfer in Portugal and the first ever Portuguese player to take part in The Open. Jose-Filipe took part in the games sessions, signed autographs and posed for photographs with the pupils.

Anne Manson, Active Schools Co-ordinator, who accompanied the children said: " All the pupils had a fantastic day and even the wet weather didn't dampen their spirits. Jose-Felipe was great with the kids and hopefully this will inspire some of them to follow in his foot steps."
