Licence summary


If you wish to run a theatre to be used for the public performance of plays it must be licensed by Clackmannanshire Council.

The application fee payable is £148.00 No fee is payable on an application for grant or transfer of an occasional theatre licence if the play(s) to be performed is/are of an educational or similar character or are to be performed for a charitable or similar purpose.

A licence may be granted for up to one year or a shorter period if the licensing authority thinks fit.OR for one or more particular occasions.

You must comply with any conditions attached to a licence.

Regulation Summary


You must give 21 days' notice to the Council and the Chief Constable of Central Scotland Police if you wish to apply for the grant or transfer of a theatre licence. The notice period is 28 days in the case of renewals.
If you are applying for an occasional theatre licence the period of notice is 14 days and no notice to the Chief Constable is required.

Application Evaluation Process


The Council may impose such terms conditions on the licence as it thinks fit to do so.

Will Tacit Consent Apply?


Yes. This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from us by the end of the target completion period which is 6 months from date of receipt of your application with all supporting documentation. This period can be extended once if necessary due to the complexity of the issue provided we notify you of the extension and its duration before the expiry of the original 6 month period.

Failed Application Redress

If your application for a licence or transfer of a licence is refused you may appeal to the Sheriff of Tayside, Central and Fife at Alloa. Appeals must be made within 21 days of the date of you are notified of the refusal.

Licence Holder Redress


Please contact our Licensing Administrator in the first instance.

If your application for a licence to be renewed is refused or you wish to appeal against a refusal to alter conditions or restrictions which you have tried to have varied or your licence is revoked or you are dissatisfied about any term, condition or restriction applied, you may appeal to the Sheriff of Tayside, Central and Fife at Alloa. Appeals must be made within 21 days of the date you are notified of the refusal, the revocation or the terms, conditions or restrictions.
