The Dollar conservation area was designated in 2005, extending the previous conservation area designated in the 1970s. The conservation area encompasses the main core of the town, with Dollar Academy and its grounds, the main road (A91) at Bridge Street/Harviestoun Road, the Burnside area which links into the old town to the north east. The church and church yard stand at the eastern boundary of the conservation area with Harviestoun Lane forming the western boundary.
